Making a difference to the society is all about providing to the necessities of the society. It is about creating a system to enable people to sustain long term, while sufficing the short term indigence.
In India, although we talk about GDP y-o-y rising to 8.2, there is certainly the economy drift that needs to be addressed immediately. If not, we may reach the disaster level of the ‘developed’ nations, faster.
While learning the mistakes of the G8 nations, there is a need to retain the good and improve on the essential to emerge as role model nation without faking.
Primarily, our country’s focus on agriculture and education needs to morph to suite the current day’s essential. The 2 key areas are agriculture and education system. They used to be our strengths, but today the transformation speed and quality are inadequate. Third key segment that we need to focus is the health segment. While the technologically advanced nations are getting into the unscrupulous standards, we as a country need a lot more focus. When # of mobiles in this country, is greater than the # of toilets, it merely shows that we are able to adapt to newer technology without applying to our own set of problems.
With that context, what can we, the equipped class of people or institutions contribute towards bridging this gap with a difference. The difference is again about self-sustenance and not just into the provide state. Let us look at each category deeply.
Agriculture:
1. Creating self help groups to embrace technology:
a. Identify and selecting set of people with a positive mind set people. This would already exist in the rural areas to a large extent. Make them the knowledge workers for the region.
b. Enable these knowledge workers to become technologically savvy to monitor agriculturist, assist and reach out for external help when required. Their activities would involve help from micro financing to investment after profit. They need to monitor each and every agriculturist in the region to understand the current situation/issue/problem and act appropriately. This would involve products, solutions available in the market. Ex:- the bidding online prices should be accessible for the farmers and they need to avoid the middle men. ITC has achieved to some extent in the state of Bihar, today. But, speed of operation to meet the scale is very slow. Big companies can partner with ITC or any other company to achieve the same.
Healthcare:
1. Infrastructure put to best utilization
2. Tele-medicine is not picking up as required, cost is one major factor.
3. Putting mobile and e-learning to use for the maximum.
Education System:
1. Education system and hand holding to rural community to utilize cloud services with low investment.
Partnering with existing providers with :
a) E-learning on agriculture, formal school, preparation towards various entrance exams, certification courses
b) Distance learning on several courses
c) Online assistance and guidance towards developing entrepreneurial skills, semi-health nursing, technical skills.
We should be able to contribute morally, physically, intellectually and financially. We could call it success on all the parameters a. utilization rate of technology b. higher productivity and efficiency and c. gain more time than before to focus on other areas.
